slow cooker cabbage soup

Soup anyone?

I’m a really busy person, and I’ve found that this slow cooker cabbage soup is one of the fastest, easiest, and most filling dinners to prepare when the day gets hectic. I just quickly put it in the crockpot and move on to other things and that my friend is one of the reasons I love crockpot cabbage soup.

It is made up of cabbage, beef, onion, celery, and carrot. This keto cabbage soup doesn’t need so much carrot. Just one will do because it adds flavor and color to your cabbage soup. Still, you can totally do without the carrot. You’ll get about 1g of extra carbs with the carrot.

Personally, I always add the carrot. The carbs in cabbage soup are low, so it is certainly a low carb meal. This slow cooker ground beef and cabbage dish is a win-win; you get to eat a good meal, and you also get enough time to get other activities done. It’s a WIN!!!!!

Do You Use Slow Cookers?

This is one question that a lot of people have asked me in the past, the answer is YES, YES, and another big YES! I mean who doesn’t love slow cookers. In the past, I have made a whole of crockpot cabbage recipes.

I had a friend though living in Russia, she doesn’t use the slow cooker, she said it is pretty cold over there and she’ll prefer the heat emitting cooking pot than the slow cooker that emits little heat.

But I think slow cookers are perfect for any type of weather condition. How about you, what do you think?

Moving on.

How To Prepare Beef Cabbage Soup

Preparing this special beef cabbage soup is so easy and the steps are quite straightforward so, let’s begin!!!

To make this, get a skillet and add your beef in and begin browning. Cook and then the next up would be to drain the beef. Be sure to get a good amount of water out of the beef.

Put the beef in the slow cooker. Add some celery, diced onion, garlic, and carrot. Top off with a little amount of beef broth and seasoning.

If you have a spinner great! If you don’t get one. The next step is to chop the cabbage into bits and then toss it into the salad spinner and then allow the spinner to do its job, afterward, add all of it into your slow cooker.

Close the crockpot and allow it to cook for 4 straight hours on high heat. That’s literally it!!! This hamburger cabbage soup would be totally worth it at the end, trust me. Like me, you can decide to serve it with sprinkled parmesan cheese (shredded), it’s all up to you.

Can It Go In The Freezer?

I’d say this is totally up to you. When making this recipe I like to make what I and my family can finish at the time, that way, we barely have leftovers. You can store this cabbage soup in the freezer, we both know the freezer does wonders in preserving almost all kinds of food. But for me, I won’t put this soup in the freezer.

I don’t know if it’s just me, but I tried it once (storing in the freezer and eating later) I noticed that the taste wasn’t as good as when it was fresh out of the slow cooker.

So, about storing this slow cooker cabbage soup in the freezer, I say again “It is totally up to you”.

Final Words

You want something you can prepare while still having enough time on your hands to do other things right? This is it!!! The taste is amazing and very easy to prepare, just let your slow cooker work for you. If you encounter any issues in the making process I’d be glad to help you. If you successfully made this recipe for your family, let me know what they think about the soup. There’s an 88% chance that they are going to love it.

Crockpot cabbage recipe made in 4 hours and 10 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef

  • 1 medium head cabbage, chopped

  • 2 stalks chopped celery

  • ½ chopped onion

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 2 cloves minced garlic

  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning

  • 1 chopped carrot

  • 5 cups broth

Directions

  • The first step is to “brown the beef” You can do this by adding the beef to your skillet and tossing until it becomes brown. Be sure to break it up as it cooks.
  • Toss in the onions along with the beef and allow the beef to cook completely
  • Drain the beef, get ready your slow cooker. Put the cooked onion and beef inside the slow cooker.
  • Throw in some cabbage, Italian seasoning, celery, beef broth, carrot, garlic, and salt to the crockpot.
  • Activate the slow cooker and allow everything to cook for 4 straight hours on high.

Notes

  • You will hardly find a carrot in keto recipes, but for this ground beef and cabbage slow cooker recipe, I used just 1 carrot which when divided into the number of servings, adds less than 1g of carbs. You can choose to leave the carrot out if you want.
