Cabbage and Sausage

So, you could literally tag this as fried cabbage and sausage made simple. In this article, I will take you on a not so long journey.

It all started in 2012, I was single at the time, living in California and trying so hard to become one of the best cook instructors.

2013, I met an amazing woman (name withheld), she taught me what I am about to share with you.

It took a while but I finally got the hang of it and now, I can make this cabbage and sausage recipe and a bunch of other mouth-watering fried cabbage recipes.

In a bit, I’ll introduce to you what I call, smoked sausage and cabbage bruhaha. LOL, okay, I was messing with you. But we’ll actually be talking about a unique smoked sausage and cabbage recipe (without the bruhaha).

First and one of the most important things to look at is the smoked sausage. So, time to pop the big question.

Type Of Smoked Sausage To Use

Trust me guys there are lots and lots of smoked sausages to use out there, for this, you have the freedom to pick your preferred sausage roll but you need to do it with caution. Lots of smoked sausages out there are pretty high in carbs.

You will need to be highly cautious, go for the one that has an amazingly low amount of carbs.

The Art Of Making Fried Cabbage With Sausage

If you have a skillet at home, that’s great! If you don’t scroll down to the very end of this article and you’ll see a recommended skillet for the job. With that being said. Heat your skillet over medium heat, next up, get some avocado oil and make a couple of swirls on the skillet. If you don’t have avocado oil you can use olive oil, it is a great substitute.

Using a sharp knife, slice your sausage into thin round circles and then place them on the skillet. After doing this, get some onions and garlic, add them alongside the sausage and let them soften up a bit. What’s sausage without good old onion and garlic?

Next up, get a cabbage chopped up and then also add the chopped cabbage to the skillet. OH MY! Are your food senses ticking already? You are not alone!

Allow the cabbage to cook for a while with the sausage and do what I call the “cabbage and sausage stir fry” Which simple involves you stirring the polish sausage and cabbage for about 8 minutes or more.

When you notice that the cabbage is soft and tender to your liking.

The last and most important part……. (time to eat!)

Serve your keto sausage and cabbage with pride! Trust me, it’s going to taste good!

Smoked sausage recipes are the best.

Are Fried Cabbage Recipes Kid-Friendly?

Totally, in fact, when I made this for my kids, I was actually surprised that they liked it so much. The youngest keeps asking “Mom when next are you going to make smoked sausage?” It is safe for kids, you have nothing to worry about. After all, you are giving them sausage with fewer carbs

Can Fried Cabbage And Sausage Recipes Be Stored In The Fridge?

A fridge is an amazing place for preserving for we can finish for later. Personally, I would say a fridge can do its job and actually protect the cabbage and sausage from getting bad. But storing it in the fridge might make it lose its juiciness and all.

Unless you would have a non-juicy and not so fresh cabbage and sausage, I would advise you to prepare what you and your family can finish at once.

Final Words

It takes nothing to make this low carb meal. But I’ll tell you what I tell my students in real-time. I say “don’t get too excited and forget your keto plan”. Most times, people tend to get too excited while trying to make a meal and end up with a carb-filled meal, especially when buying ingredients.

Don’t forget to “Think Keto”.

This is a special smoked sausage and cabbage recipe that I learned back in the day.  It takes just 30 minutes or less to complete the preparation process.

Ingredients

  • ½ yellow onion.

  • 1 teaspoon of salt.

  • 1 teaspoon of ground pepper.

  • 2 cloves of garlic.

  • 1 large cabbage.

  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil.

  • 12 ounces of smoked sausage.

Directions

  • Slice the smoked sausage into thin circles.
  • Heat up a skillet (medium heat) and add the first tablespoon of oil.
  • Add the sliced sausage roll to the skillet and stir.
  • When the sausage is brown on both ends add the onion and garlic and keep on stirring until the onion and garlic become soft.
  • Add the second tablespoon of oil along with the chopped cabbage.
  • Sprinkle a little bit of salt and pepper.
  • Stir and cook the cabbage until it becomes soft. (Cook for about 10 minutes).
  • Serve hot.

Notes

  • If the oil doesn’t seem enough due to the amount of carbage used, you can add more oil. But careful so you don’t add way too much.
